What is Time?

Time is in motion

The face of a clock

How is time (literally) in (within) motion!

  • Days and nights* are the first real events we experiment and taught to interpret as time; only later in our lives are we given the opportunity to re-discover that time is only an abstraction for the real spinning motion of earth.
  • What we think is time next extends to seasons and years. Again it requires more learning to realize that that new aspect of time is also an abstraction of a real motion, that of earth around the sun.
  • Then our concept of time extends to geological times, which are measured through carbon 14 that involves atomic decay or the motion of subatomic particles. Finally cosmological times (expressed in light-years) are perceived by our minds through the physical properties of light rays, which characteristic is to allways be in motion.
  • On the other side of the spectrum the initial concept of day is divided in hours, minutes and seconds. Scientists divide the seconds further into exotic micro, nano, pico and what not seconds. And these are measured through atomic clocks that use sub-atomic particles' vibrations or motion.
  • In all cases, no matter the time duration and scale, it is measured with a mechanical, electronic or atomic device, which involves the physical phenomenon of motion.
  • In short, duration of time is an abstraction (within our minds) of occurence of motion (in reality).
  • Note:
    1. Motion is reality, because motion occurs outside our human brains.
    2. Motion is never instantaneous.
  • Reality has then to be envisioned by our minds through durations of motion!

    There are much more intriguing thoughts that can be expressed about time! A whole chapter is devoted to it in the book The Harmony of Reality, in no Time...

* Note:
In bold are events occuring outside our human brains, that are events which for sure occur in reality.
In italics and beige are interpretations of events by our human brains, and as such might be artificial and might have no collateral in reality.
